Salesforce Inspector

♥ I love, love, love it! ♥

I love the Salesforce Inspector, I use it multiple times a day every single day, you can find the field requirements, field type, API names, export data, import data, and everyone loves to play with the REST explorer to see how everything is connected. Seriously it is a tool that I use over and over each day and love so so much, and there is always a new use case.  A total must for Salesforce Admin, data analysts, developers, and Power Users.

What it Does: Created by Søren Krabbe, the Salesforce Inspector is “Productivity tools for Salesforce administrators and developers to inspect data and metadata directly from the Salesforce UI.”

Salesforce Inspector lets you the little things quickly and easily.  You can see your API names, by hovering over field names, and you can see all data (and I mean ALL DATA) for a record a the click of a button.  All data includes the Field Name, API Name, help text, description, value, and more, with access to edit data and metadata.  Plus, it has import and export superpowers.

What I like:  Well, the “View All Data” feature has come in handy more times than I can count.  When your field isn’t on the page layout, or when you are trying to find out  how the formula behind a field works, having immediate access without leaving your record is like water in the desert.

The import and export features come in handy too.  You can write yourself a SOQL query to export data from any record for any object, it is really handy when checking relationships.   It even helps you by using narrowing down your field choices while you type, which is a lifesaver when you don’t know the API name off-hand.   As for the imports, just image having the ability to insert/update/upsert data from any record for any object without having to open the DataLoader and login.  You can copy and paste in columns from excel, load a CSV, or manually type in values for multiple records for a quick and easy import/update/upsert.  ♥ Love it! ♥

What I dislikeHonestly, there really isn’t anything I dislike about this extension.  It’s lightweight, so you don’t have any drag.  It saves so many clicks, and the SOQL superpower, even if it didn’t export/import data, just straight up rocks.  You will find use cases for problems you never knew you had, and still save clicks compared to life without.  I can’t say enough about this guy.
